Cedar Rapids, Iowa: September 28, 2018 – SOKO Outfitters, the newest locally owned specialty outdoor store in Cedar Rapids, will celebrate its grand opening on October 7 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
“SOKO Outfitters is about finding new adventures, and we are excited to be part of the ongoing revitalization of the Czech Village. We are in the foothills of Mount Trashmore, located right along the river and the bike trail. We want to be a bridge that helps people explore our community and beyond,” said Steve Shriver, co-owner.
The grand opening features family-friendly activities such as live music by Young the Lion, free beverages for adults and children, games, a slackline demo, product giveaways and raffle drawings.
SOKO opened its doors on September 1 and has since enjoyed learning from customers, expanding staff expertise and adding new products to the floor. The grand opening will showcase the full inventory, including fall and winter lines of clothing and footwear.
“SOKO Outfitters isn’t only for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts. The same gear you use to climb a mountain can be the same gear you wear in February walking your dog. We have drinkware, coolers, and layered clothing that are perfect for tailgating. In addition to camping and hiking equipment, we also carry everything from yoga mats and portable water bowls for pets to headphones and sunglasses,” said Ryan Sundermann, co-owner.
The grand opening is an opportunity to tour the 6000 square foot store, meet the owners and learn more about the SOKO family of brands, which include Patagonia, The North Face, Prana, Salomon, Fjallraven, Osprey, Darn Tough Socks, Camelbak, Smartwool and many more.
Guests can also try the two-story climbing wall, which has unique features that are molded from actual rock formations on the Minnesota and Wisconsin border. A 25-pound minimum ensures even younger kids can be introduced to this healthy activity.
Representatives from the Indian Creek Nature Center, Iowa Water Trails Association and Cedar Rapids Parks Foundation will share updates about progress on the forthcoming kayak launch. This project will promote non-motorized water recreation along the Cedar River.
SOKO staff will also have details about upcoming adventure trips in 2019, which include hiking at national canyon parks (Bryce, Zion and Grand Canyon) and a biking and rafting trip in Colorado.
SOKO Outfitters is where the adventure begins. The specialty outdoor store caters to thrill seekers and weekend warriors as well as dog lovers, individuals just starting their fitness journey and folks who simply want to stay warm while sipping coffee outside on a chilly day. Locally owned and operated in the Czech Village, SOKO’s knowledgeable staff are excited to help you prepare to scale a mountain or go camping for the first time. SOKO Outfitters is owned by outdoor enthusiasts Graig Cone, Steve White, Ryan Sundermann and Steve Shriver.
